Dear Mr. Shaddox:

In May 2011, I intend on receiving my teaching certificate in English Education from Kennesaw State University, and I am seeking a position as a full-time teacher at North Gwinnett High School. Throughout my four years at Kennesaw State, I have been deeply emerged in the main areas of literature taught at North Gwinnett, including both ancient and contemporary American, British, and world literature. In addition to my required classes, I have also taken classes in scriptural literature and intermediate Spanish language, which have widened my exposure to different types of literature, writing, and general language. Additionally, as a member of the Honors Program, I have conducted extensive research in linguistics that is applicable to the different communicative and rhetorical techniques currently taught in high schools.
Furthermore, I have acquired experiences through jobs and specific organizations that are relevant to the English classroom. For example, as a member of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, I have participated in middle school poetry readings and Shakespeare celebrations to help invoke a stronger sense of community within the English department at Kennesaw. In viewing the course team divisions at North Gwinnett, I am excited to prospectively participate in learning communities across the specific subjects as well. Secondly, while working at a high-volume restaurant in Kennesaw, I have developed strategies for handling multiple responsibilities at once and working through unexpected conflict. Working in this position has helped me develop into an effective communicator with people of different ages and positions and to do so with a pleasant disposition, even if the circumstances are stressful.
Furthermore, as a graduate from North Gwinnett, I come with a particular fondness for the school and its culture. My devotion for the school will be evident in my enthusiasm and comfort within the environment. Since I have already had experiences within the same classrooms, I hope that my students will be able to connect with me in special ways. As a student, I was involved in multiple organizations throughout the school, including literary magazine and newspaper staff. I am very interested in contributing extra time and support to The Black and Red newspaper if there is any current need in that area. Overall, I believe I can bring another open mind, positive attitude, and fresh enthusiasm to North Gwinnett if I am given the instructor position.
